*Trying to keep this spoiler free despite a joke I make early on*
I finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last night. I liked it very much. I must say that I did guess the antagonist early on (it’s always the quiet ones), but not nearly all of the details, and it did not ruin the story for me at all. I thought that the final 20 pages or so were somewhat meh, most likely because pages 100-550 kept me so enthralled that I couldn’t put the book down, even to go to pilates class or to bed at a decent hour. I would not say that it is in my Top 3 favorite books of all time, but it is in my Top 10. (And when 7 of your Top 10 involve either Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, it’s almost a good as being in the Top 3 haha.)
I talked to my sister Christie on Sunday night after I started reading the book. She said, “I have the second book if you want to borrow it, but I won’t see you until the end of July. I know that you are going to want to read it before that.” Totally dismissed what she said, responding with Jay as my witness, “Christie, I have excellent will power and I have other books to read before I go to San Diego and there’s not going to be much reading done in San Diego. I’ll see you 4 days after I get back and will borrow the book from you then.”
Totally bought the second book in the trilogy, The Girl Who Played with Fire, today on my lunch break.
It’s not my fault! Nick told me it was awesome and THEN I got a 20% off any purchase coupon as a Barnes & Noble’s member this morning. Naturally, the universe was sending me a sign to go buy the book and who am I to ignore the universe?
So if I’m not around much on Words With Friends and Twitter and Facebook (haha yeah right, I’m always around on Facebook) and this blog over the next few days, blame it on Nick and Barnes & Noble. [Editor’s Note: I effing miss having my beloved Borders Books 2 miles from work. Their member coupons were 30% & I spent many, many, many a break chilling there over the last year and a half. R.I.P. North Raleigh Borders store. B&N is closer to my apartment but BB was closer to work.] If you’re considering reading Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I would definitely recommend reading it. Yes, the first 100 pages are all set-up, but I actually liked that and I loved the rest of the book. Give it a shot and let me know what you thought. If you’ve already read it, let’s get discussing!
