Rock ‘n’ Roll Brooklyn 10K

So, this post is only a week-and-a-half over due!  On Saturday, October 12, Jay, Dad, Katelyn, Christie, and I joined some of our dear podcasting friends Alirio, Jon, Dan, Gabby, and Gigi in good old Brooklyn to run the Rock ‘N’ Roll 10K in Prospect Park.  It was a blast!  We had a super gorgeous day for a run.  The race began at 7:30 a.m.  My parents, Jay and I set sail from my parents’ house around 4:30 a.m. that morning.  It was rainy on the way in, but by the time we got into Brooklyn, it had stopped and by the time the sun came out, it was a gorgeous day.  We met up with my sisters and our friends when we got there.

If you’re thinking about doing a fun race that’s longer than a 5K, then the Rock ‘n’ Roll series isn’t a bad place to start.  I thought it was going to be a bit different than it was, though.  The bands didn’t seem as enthusiastic as I thought they would be, but I guess if you’re a musician, playing a concert at 7:30 a.m. may not be your best performance.  It also seemed as though the bands were spread out much further than we were led to believe, though that could’ve been because we were running at a slower pace.  I guess what I am trying to say is there didn’t seem to be as much rock ‘n’ roll going on during the Rock ‘n’ Roll 10K in Brooklyn.  70% of the time, it felt like just another race.  It could have been a number of factors though (the bands, the course, etc.).  I just felt for that the amount of money to register, we’d have a more festive atmosphere, that’s all.  There was a lot more energy from the Color Mania 5K that Jay and I did back in April.  But, the race wasn’t super competitive, so if you’re just looking to have fun with your friends, then look into it.

As I said before, it was a gorgeous day, one of those days that are perfect for running.  Team McAllister-Glatfelter ran together as a group and finished in a decent time.  I had a blast.  After the race was over, we headed back to Katelyn’s neck of the woods (Forest Hills, Queens) to shower (which everyone did but me because I was too lazy).  Once everyone was clean, it was time for food.  Boston, Alirio, Christine & their two children and Jon, Angie, & their son met us at one of Kate’s favorite restaurants in Forest Hills for some brunch.  It was awesome to get to see them all and catch up.  I missed having everyone at San Diego Comic Con this year!  Luckily, they’ll all be in Raleigh again for the marathon charity podcast in March.

Here’s the race in pictures.  I’m going to hit you with an absurd amount of them and I expect zero of the people reading this to actually look at them all, haha.  There’s 16 pictures and half of them are crappy quality.  But, here you go anyway!

Runnin’ with mah Smoops.  I look a little busted in the face, but it was 8am & I’d been up for four hours at this point…

I took this picture right around the halfway mark.  Everyone’s still going strong.

My mom and my sister’s friend took the next few pictures of us running.  It was around the 4 mile mark.

We had our happy faces on and our thumbs up.
