I think Ricky Gervais was funny.

I meant to post this yesterday but I just read another article on this whole bullshit Ricky Gervais hosting the Golden Globes “controversy” and it pissed me off enough to have a quick rant.

First of all, Hollywood, most of you are a bunch of babies with zero sense of humor.  You have the most abhorrent behavior, think of yourselves as above the law, and are just plain old hypocrites.  Yesterday, the Golden Globes president called some of the things Ricky said “totally unacceptable.”  I’m sure he finds all the attention Gervais has brought to the Globes totally unacceptable as well.  Even more dramatic was what an “anonymous” member of the HFPA told PopEater yesterday: “Ricky will not be invited back to host the show next year, for sure.  For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated. He humiliated the organization last night and went too far with several celebrities whose representatives have already called to complain.”

I call bullshit and so does Ricky.  He mentioned in his blog that he was drinking with a non-angry Tom Hanks and Tim Allen after the show.  He wrote, “I enjoyed the Globes more this year. I think I had better gags. More along the lines of the Mel Gibson one last year.”  Ah, the Mel Gibson joke from last year!  No one had their reps call to complain after Gibson was made fun of.  Oh, that’s right.  Because it was fashionable to make fun of Mel Gibson.  Because he deserved it.  He wasn’t a source of $$$ for anyone at the time.  Charlie Sheen, one of Hollywood’s biggest assholes, was off the table because he still makes a lot of money for CBS despite them knowing what a f*ck up he is.  He can beat on women and ignore his children and do all the drugs in the world but we can’t make fun of him for that because that’s “inappropriate.”  Goodness.  The Scientologist joke was borderline but no names were named and it’s not like no one in the history of live TV has ever once made a joke “certain Scientologists” sexuality.  And RDJ, I love you, but it was just a freaking JOKE.  To the press who is making a big deal about the Best Foreign Film joke, he was kinda right.  If the immaturity of my Twitter feed has taught me anything, it’s that the majority of Americans do not care about foreign films.  I concede that the Lost joke was not funny but I think Gervais knew it wasn’t funny when he was making the joke because it, again, was not exactly a brand new joke that people haven’t been hearing for the last 6 years.  Then again, that’s the ONLY joke of the entire night that I have not heard requoted as inappropriate or scandalous.  Good to know that the press cares about assholes like Charlie Sheen over good, controversy-free people like Jorge Garcia’s feelings.

You want to talk offensive?  How about January Jones’ dress, Al Pacino’s hair or Angelina Jolie’s bitchface the entire night?  Those things offended me but you don’t see me complaining.  Chill out, Hollywood.  You got called out on all your shit.  Big deal.  Go sit in your millions of dollars and remember how much better than the rest of us you are.

[Update: At least Hugh Hefner has a sense of humor.]
