Our age of power is coming to an end.
It’s being dismantled by monsters from within.
I think about it as I lie awake in bed.
How could we let this happen?
In a way, we did it to ourselves.
Easily distracted by shiny squirrels.
But these monsters had a long-term plan,
And they’re stomping all over us.
Power wrestled from the people, who willingly ceded it.
Watching helplessly as the monsters feast.
It’s hard to admit when you’re wrong.
The road to injustice is short, but the pavement is long.
And some prefer to ban all umbrellas,
Rather than help their own neighbors keep dry.
So, what can we do?
What else besides screaming ourselves blue?
Are the only people who’ll care
the ones who already knew?
The warning bell was ringing, but not enough heeded it.
And now we cling for our lives as the zone floods with shit.
Is it enough to share memes to make others aware?
And if they’re aware, will they even care?
Or will they scurry back to their echo chamber
and lock the door?
Are we too late to stop them?
Are the lines so drawn? Is the hate so strong?
Will you burn your block down and watch your own home burn?
Just so your neighbors know that they don’t belong?
Power wrestled from the people, who willing ceded it.
Throwing it all away just to help the monsters feast.
Our age of power is coming to an end.
It’s being dismantled by monsters from within.
I think about it as I lay awake in bed.
How could we let this happen?
