I think we have all been affected by cancer, whether we know it or not. Today, Jo & Jared‘s efforts to benefit the National Brain Tumor Society come to fruition. The inspiring co-creators behind Cancer Gets LOST are producing and hosting a live webcast in Los Angeles today, August 25, from 12-4pm PST that will have former LOST cast & crew in attendance. From 7-11pm PST, there will be a fundraising event featuring LOST trivia, giveaways, and more. The online auction of LOST and TV/film memorabilia, props and autographed items will remain open until August 29, 2012.
100% of all proceeds raised through Cancer Gets LOST‘s efforts will go directly to the National Brain Tumor Society. This charity was selected in honor of Jo’s dear friend Jackie O, who passed away on August 3, 2012 after a brave four year battle against brain tumors and cancer.
Like most charity efforts, I don’t think one truly takes meaning until you can directly relate to it. It’s just human nature. Cancer sucks. It’s a vile, invasive betrayal of our own cells and it is never, ever fair. As someone whose life and whose family has had their lives continually taken hostage by a seemingly never-ending illness, I ask you to just go to their website and become aware. You don’t have to donate, you don’t have to bid on any auction items. Just check out what they’re doing and the charity it benefits, then perhaps be inspired to donate to them or to any charity that has special meaning to you. Thank you.
