Internet Killed the Printed Word Book

borders_booksSince Borders Books has filed Chapter 11, I found out the other day that my beloved store near work is closing within the next few months.  I’m pretty bummed that the Internet has killed print, to be honest.  I’ve downloaded books to the Kindle app on my iPad but just cannot get into reading books electronically.  Give me a book made out of paper any day, hands down.  I go to that Borders quite often during my lunch breaks.  It’s really close and since I only get 30 minutes for lunch, it’s a very convenient place to spend it.  I went to check out their “Going Out of Business” sale today.  I knew that at this point in the game (aka weekend 1 of many sale weekends), the majority of books would be priced at the 20% end of the “Everything is 20-40%!” sign.  What was funny, however, was even at the 20% off prices, getting a book from Wal-mart or even Target was either still cheaper than the sale prices or the sale prices brought the books down to what they would sell for at the ‘Mart or Target.  This just means you’re next, Best Buy and your outrageous $55 for the f*cking 5th season DVD set of Supernatural.

Farewell, Borders by work.  I shall miss you.

So speaking of the Internet, without it, we would miss out on awesome headlines like this:

Yup, my mind totally went there.  You know yours did too.  You nasty, Joe Jonas.

Also speaking of the Internet, this PostSecret from today’s batch made me laugh, mainly because I’ve found myself thinking in 140 characters on occasion, too.  I’ve been taking a bit of a Twitter break lately and doing things like reading books more, haha.  I still creep on everyone’s biznatch on Facebook though.

Finally, I also can relate to this PostSecret:

I think I need an actual 3 day weekend where I do absolutely nothing and go absolutely nowhere because I’ve been making a lot of stupid mistakes at work lately and a large part of it is I feel burnt out.  I need a little bit of change in my daily life to revive me.  At least I’m going to be in a different office this week from Tues-Thurs, so I think that will at least be a nice change of pace.  I’m still thinking about going back to school though.  Not that I don’t like my job now, but it’s not really what I want to do for the rest of my life.  At this point, the journalism thing is probably never going to happen because I’ve been out of the game too long and there’s just not really any jobs for it down here, anyway.  I have applied for them in Raleigh whenever I see them come up but I’ve never once gotten any responses at all.  So it’s time to really sit and figure out what I want to do as a career in life and then see how I can make that happen.
